Founded on June 21, 1972, Aleut stands as one of the 12 Alaska Native regional corporations established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. Today, we proudly represent over 4,000 Alaska Native shareholders, weaving together a legacy that spans generations.

Through the successful operation of our businesses, Aleut strives to make meaningful economic impact in the Aleut Region and in the lives of our shareholders and descendants through dividends, employment, training, and cultural support. Our connection to our region and culture is reflected in our original logo.

Designed by John Larsen in 1990, Aleut’s original logo featured three iconic symbols of Unangax̂ culture: the bentwood visor, the mountain, and the arrowhead. At the core of Aleut lies a deep reverence for our Unangax̂ roots, encapsulated in our updated logo and branding. While we embrace a future-focused momentum, we remain steadfast in honoring our rich heritage through these symbolic elements that resonate with our community.

The Bentwood Visor

The Bentwood hunting visor is an iconic Unangax̂ symbol and serves as a powerful reminder of our connection to the land and commitment to preserving traditions. Still made by hand today, the bentwood hat is made using elements from nature and decorated with traditional designs personalized to the maker.

The Mountain

The mountain rises from the sea to stand as an enduring symbol of strength, reflecting the resilience and steadfast nature of the Unangax̂ people. The mountain has shaped the landscape of the Aleutians and the Unangax̂ way of life, standing as a testament to our unyielding determination in the face of oppression and adversity.

The Arrowhead

The arrowhead embodies the values of precision and purpose that defines Aleut’s approach to business. Crafted with meticulous care and expertly attuned to the surrounding environment, the arrowhead symbolizes our commitment to excellence and strategic focus. Like the arrowhead, we are driven by purpose — our mission to our shareholders.

Aleut’s color palette reflects the dynamic landscape of the Aleut Region, where nature’s forces shape the land and sea. Inspired by the wild storms and rugged coastline of the Aleutian Islands, our colors evoke the contrasts of the seasons. From vibrant ocean blues and bright red berries of summer to the deep tans and neutral hues of winter, our palette captures the essence of the Aleut Region.

While Aleut’s visual identity has evolved to reflect our growth and focus on the future, the heart of our brand remains deeply rooted in our Unangax̂ culture. The iconic symbols of the bentwood visor, mountain, and arrowhead pay tribute to our rich heritage and the enduring spirit of the Aleutian Pribilof Island Region. As we journey forward, these elements not only represent our respect for tradition but also our commitment to excellence, progress, and innovation and, most importantly, our unwavering dedication to our shareholders. Through this blend of past and present, Aleut approaches the challenges and opportunities ahead, guided by the values that have defined us since our inception on June 21, 1972.

Together, We Are Unangax̂.
