This obituary was written by Glen’s family.
Glen Brandal was a proud shareholder of The Aleut Corporation and a member of the Unga Tribe. Known for his fun-loving, easygoing nature, Glen was set in his ways but deeply valued the friendships he built across the Aleut region. A resident of Unalaska for the last 36-37 years, he was a dedicated longshoreman and retired as a respected member of the local Longshoreman Union. His legacy of warmth and friendship will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Tribute
From Unga’s shores where the sea whispers low,
A boy of the Aleut, where the wild winds blow
With salt in his veins and the tide in his heart,
He forged his path, played his part
Dutch Harbor called, with its tumult and grind,
A fisherman’s spirit, a soul unconfined
In Sand Point’s embrace and the harbors vast breath,
He navigated life, embraced labor and death
For thirty long years, with steadfast embrace,
Longshoreman’s hands carved a life in this place
Driving forklifts through storms, in rains heavy dance,
Unloading the bounty, a life of hard chance
Boxes of frozen fish, a tapestry spun,
Each cargo a story, each day a new run
Through blizzards and calm, through the howl of the night,
Glen stood like a mountain, a beacon of light
From ships to shore, where the tides intertwine,
He lifted the burdens, the weight of the line
With each heavy container, each piece of the load,
He built a community, a laborer’s road
In sunlit serenity, in tempest and squall,
He weathered it all, standing proud, standing tall
A craftsman of toil, a guardian of dreams,
In the heart of the harbor, he stitched together seams
Now as we gather, our voices a prayer,
For Glen, who has ventured beyond time and air
In the currents of heaven, may you find your own peace,
Thank you, dear Glen, may your spirit increase
See you in the quiet where the stars brightly gleam,
In the harbor of angels, where love reigns supreme
Your legacy lingers, a warm, steadfast glow,
In the hearts of the many, you’ll always be home!
