Celebrating 50 Years of Dedication

On March 10, 2025, Aleut proudly celebrates an extraordinary milestone: original shareholder and employee Dave Nevzuroff’s remarkable 50 years of service!

Dave, known to many as “Doc, is a founding shareholder from King Cove, Alaska, and was recognized as Aleut’s Shareholder of the Year in 2010. From Aleut’s earliest days in the 1970s to today, Dave has been a cornerstone of our corporation, bringing unmatched expertise, dedication, and a warm sense of humor to his role.

Growing up in the close-knit fishing community of King Cove, Dave spent his early years working as a commercial fisherman alongside his family. His connection to the land and people of the region shaped Dave’s lifelong commitment to uplifting Unangax̂ communities.

Dave’s educational journey took him from Chilocco Indian School and East Anchorage High School to Sheldon Jackson College, Alaska Methodist University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he studied accounting and elementary education. His academic achievements laid the foundation for his impactful career at Aleut, where he has served as a trailblazer in the accounting department. Over the years, Dave has also lent his expertise to 13 village corporations, served 10 years as a Director for Akima Corporation, dedicated 17 years as a trustee for Aleut’s 10771 Retirement Program, and has served as Aleut’s Assistant Secretary/Treasurer since the early 1980s (and as Aleut’s sole Secretary/Treasurer before the role transitioned to a Board position).

Affectionately known as the “official coffee maker” of the office, Dave’s legendary brews are said to “put hair on your chest.” Yet it’s his bright smile, infectious laugh, and wisdom-filled stories that truly energize those around him. His colleagues often speak of his unwavering kindness, thoughtful advice, and deep commitment to putting shareholders first. Shareholders might recognize Dave from our Annual Meeting, where Dave and his wife Denia proudly volunteer to greet shareholders and support the Elder table every year.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dave’s adventurous spirit has led to some incredible experiences. As a skilled pilot, he’s flown Cessna 120s, 150s, and 172s, including an unforgettable journey co-piloting a Cessna 120 from Palmer, Alaska, to Cold Bay, with his friend Ricky Koso.

When asked about the journey, Dave chuckled and shared,

“We actually got stuck in King Salmon for a few days because of the weather. But soon enough, we just decided to follow the Naknek to the coast and we stayed flying over that coast until we finally made it to Cold Bay!”

Whether in the skies or on the ground, Dave’s sense of adventure and dedication have always inspired those around him.

Qaĝaasakuq and congratulations, Dave, for 50 years of leadership, service, and laughter.
