Letter from the President

Jul 11, 2023

Aang Unangax̂  Family,

I am excited to share a few updates with you as we welcome the warmer days of summer and begin our new fiscal year.

I am committed to hiring qualified shareholders and descendants into leadership positions throughout our corporation as we grow. As such, I am thrilled to share some of our most recent hires.

In April, Shareholder Alex Werba started as TAC’s new Controller. With over 15 years of finance experience, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our family of companies. We are delighted to have her as part of the Aleut team. Welcome, Alex!

In June, we welcomed Shareholder Julie Toomey as Vice President of Regional Affairs. In this role, Julie focuses on partnerships with our village corporations, tribal entities, and non-profit organizations to address issues impacting our region and our people. Julie will participate in our annual regional travel this summer – an excellent opportunity for you to meet her in person!

I am also happy to introduce Shareholder Sarah Dushkin as our new Grants Manager. Sarah will develop a thriving grants program within TAC to expand our work in the region and maximize the impact of these awards. TAC was awarded a Port and Infrastructure Development Grant and recently, an EPA Community-wide Assessment Grant. Sarah will be managing these programs and more.

By the time you’ve received this edition of the Aleutian Current, the TAC team will be visiting our communities. 2023 will mark our first trip to St. George or St. Paul since the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are grateful for the opportunity to connect in-person. These community visits are special, and we look forward to seeing you and introducing our new VP. You can read more about the shareholder community meeting schedule on page 5.

Chair Nelson shares more about upcoming events and deadlines in her letter. We look forward to seeing you either at a community meeting or in Seattle for our 51st Annual Meeting on October 14. Check your inbox and our social media channels for more information in the weeks to come.

Qaĝaasakung,

Skoey Vergen

President & CEO
